Destinations: New Zealand

Wild Point Tours,
South Africa

Wild point is a little under 2 hours away on our "Wild Coast". Only a handfull get to surf it.

A summary of the what we offer etc. follows:

Flights and logistics: We have a local airport which receives connecting flights from JHB and CT. I believe it's best to book a flight directly from where you are to East London as the airlines appear to throw in the local connecting flight at a nominal rate. This might only be the position with SAA. You'd have to check with your travel agent. There's no malaria or bilharzia.
What we offer: We collect at the airport, and provide all transport relating to the tour incl. the odd night out, outings when the surf is not up to standard eg game parks etc, and all surf trips around here and down the coast. We supply all meals. Neat accommodation with en suite and TV. This is a surfing tour, so if a guest doesn't want to get out of bed in the morning, he is left behind and collected later for the second session, if there is one! The tour is only really recommended for those who want to surf and that way you get to see more, and experience more. The most important ingredient in our formula is the guide, who knows what to avoid, and where the waves will be.

The surf guides: Your chief guides are Roger, or Louis, or Nick, or Glenn, or Julian or John. We are all in our late 30's and 40's. We know our way around, and can ensure that you get to surf A LOT, and enjoy the whole experience. Vehicles are roadworthy, and driven carefully by guides who are mature and intent on living to surf another day!! We absorb you into our lifestyle, and you get to meet the locals!

Click to Enlarge What to bring: 2/3 fullsuit and 2/3 shorty. Minimum of clothing. We recommend guests buy here if they prefer as it's cheap. If you don't get carried away, you can get by with US$50-100 spending money (liquor, clothing and odds) Our local shapers make world class boards which can be custom made and cured by the time you arrive (at probably half the price you would pay).

The surf!!: Totally uncrowded! Most times just us out. The local surfers are a friendly lot who consider visitors a curiosity. In JANUARY we are out of the winter swell period, so the swell would probably be mostly 2-4ft (4ft=overhead) with the odd 4-6ft day if we are lucky. Offshores are not as regular (average maybe 3 out of 5 days). When it is onshore at the main spots, we take you to Glen Eden or Igoda where it is offshore in the onshore!! From FEBRUARY onwards, the swell picks up, and our nearest spot is regularly 4-6ft, with some days at 6-8ft.From MARCH to NOVEMBER the prevailing wind in our area is offshore!! The breaks are varied, from beachbreaks both left and right breaking, to right points which show a bit more swell, to reef breaks both left and right breaking. We visit J-Bay regularly from March to November, and stay there until the swell drops or the conditions turn unfavourable. We surf long shortboards but the guys who surf longboards handle and have great fun. The water temp fluctuates in our area, depending on factors incl. the wind. From 17-19C on a day when there are upwellings, to 20-22C when it's been offshore for a while. Air temp is about 20-30C during the day.
We offer discounts for groups of three or more.

Be sure to read the Testimonials page on our website. We can let you have references and contact details if you are interested, including details of guys from your area who have joined us and left surfed out and stoked.

Check out the site at www.dawnpatrol.co.za/tour.htm for current prices. Let me have more questions if you have any. It's no trouble. Keep surfing.
